A Tisha b'Av Poem, by my son Noam (age 11)
2000 years ago
A friendship was broke.
Kamtza was his best friend
But for his son the relationship he could not mend.
A servant hard of hearing
When the house he was nearing
Could not fathom why he was sent
But nonetheless on he went
With joy in his heart
Bar Kamtza from his house did depart
But when he arrived
Of his joy he was deprived.
“Get out!” came the voice so loud
That it was heard to the whole crowd
“please let me stay just a bit more
Because the embarrassment I could not ignore
If I sneak away
Their attention could be swayed”
“No” he yelled
And up his fist was held.
He betrayed all Klal Yisroel
And out the city he did crawl.
He told the Romans to send up a pig
And in Yerushalaim there was a shake so big.
The Jews were enslaved
All because a way a party host behaved.
(YGB Note: Not precise historically, but definitely precise in sentiment...)
