I can't speak for everyone in the class, but it was a formative influence on me. It's a credit to both you and Rabbi Shuster, who wanted his students to know the answer(s) to the question. But I've literally never heard of any other elementary/high school Rebbe who has presented such information to his students. (And I've asked around quite a bit.) It's a major failing of the current educational system. How are kids expected to care about Gemara if they aren't told why they're learning it?YZFhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06404344086361978118noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11425001.post-84907479686526374532011-11-09T00:22:11.948-05:002011-11-09T00:22:11.948-05:00"Clearly, a lot of tinkering needs to be done..."Clearly, a lot of tinkering needs to be done with how the Talmud is taught, especially to those who are more likely find it difficult."<br /><br />Maybe www.AnimatedTalmud.com might be a good start.Philnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11425001.post-54063262577825927242011-11-08T15:43:56.616-05:002011-11-08T15:43:56.616-05:00Parents may have a relevant duty here: to isolate...Parents may have a relevant duty here: to isolate their children as much as possible from modern contrivances that minimize attention span. How can anyone advocate dropping our primary means of learning how halakhah moves without making sure we have actually exhausted all our other options?<br /><br />Kids want instant gratification and do not get excited by the pieces clicking into places after a lengthy logical analysis? Then maybe this is something we need to impart in the younger grades!michahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15903747662338530294noreply@blogger.com
