Bimchilas kvod R' Kivlevitz -- when friends of an avel say "it's time to shave", that's a deeply kind and personal way of saying "perhaps it's time to grieve a little less"; I don't read that as randomly "ribbing" someone about their appearance. (Okay yes in Bameh Isha, if you wear something ridiculous, people will ridicule you and you'll take it off -- maybe they shouldn't, but still...) At least that was my read, no?
