A short postcard from the Rivevos Ephraim and a long letter from the Mishneh Halachos

Rabbi Greenblatt wrote the above postcard b'kitzur nimratz.

The first question concerned a person who is sitting between the aron kodesh and the bimah in a shul:
Which way should he face for Keri'as HaTorah?

The second question concerned the status on Shabbos of two leben containers that are connected:
May they be separated?

I received extensive responses to these questions from Rabbi Menashe Klein zt"l, the author of Shu"t Mishneh Halachos. His responses appear below:

IY"H, over the next few days I will post several more letters from my correspondence with the Rivevos Ephraim zt"l.

  1. I think it would make more sense if the latter had presented his questions to you not the reverse.

  2. I realized later that I should have checked the date. At that age, it would indeed have been appropriate. I retract my expression of perplexity.

  4. I'm sorry, it would be too much work for me to translate the teshuvos.
