If they really can't pause in the middle of the chasunah, should just one half of the couple-to-be have lunch in the new house before the wedding? Or both of them, overriding the minhag of not seeing each other? [I know, RMF lahadam'd that whole minhag...]
It is a very tough question for the chosson and kallah, since they have to wash and can't just wait to eat a substantial meal until later. If it's before the chuppah, presumably one of them should pay the other to light for both of them. They don't both have to be present. If it's after the chuppah no payment is necessary.
