Historical Evidence for the R' Chaim No'eh Shiurim

First Temple-era eggshells offer crack at historical eating habits - Israel News - Jerusalem Post

This confirms my position when it comes to Hilchos Eruvin that the baseline halacha is according to R' Chaim No'eh's shiurim. One can be machmir like the Chazon Ish, but not employ his shiurim l'kulla.

FIRST TEMPLE-ERA EGGSHELLS OFFER CRACK AT HISTORICAL EATING HABITS

An eggy history mystery has been put back together again in the City of David, just in time for the Seder.

Eggshells from the First Temple period were found during archaeological excavations in the City of David in Jerusalem, and were recently put back together again by Prof. Zohar Amar from Bar-Ilan University.

Found by Dr. Eilat Mazar about a decade ago, the eggshells are a rare find as organic material usually disintegrates with time. They also shed light on the eating habits

Using an algorithm developed by the Israel Antiquities Authority's Dr. Avshalom Karasik to rebuild pottery vessels, Amar found that the egg fragments enjoyed by the people of Israel during the First Temple period showed that eggs then were the same size as the eggs we enjoy today on the Seder table, where hard-boiled eggs are a traditional food.

Unless contaminated by blood, chicken eggs are usually kosher and humans have been eating eggs since the animal was domesticated roughly eight thousand years ago.

The egg is also used in Jewish law to measure legal volumes, referred in Talmudic discussion as the measurement of a kabeytza (an egg). A portion that is roughly a mouthful, the measurement is meant to answer questions about when blessings should be said after foods and how much food must be eaten in special events like the Seder meal.

Talmudic scholars debate if the "mouthful" portion is an egg, half an egg, an olive, or two olives.

The Romans approached chickens from a very different perspective to the one taken by Jewish culture. The historian Livy [Titus Livius] described how the Romans would consult with sacred chickens before going to battle. If the chickens would eat their food with relish the omen was good, if they declined it was thought best not to go into battle.

Further findings regarding the chicken eggs from the City of David will be presented in May during a special academic conference at Bar-Ilan University regarding Agriculture in Ancient Israel.

Tzimtzum K'Peshuto

1687-1743 (page 23 of 113)

Someone sent this to me as a source for the long-bandied, never-seen opinion that tzimtzum is k'pshuto, i.e. that Hashem literally vacated physical space He had previously occupied. In my opinion, he is just expressing the same perspective as the Nefesh HaChaim did years later, that we must operate as if the tzimtzum is real, even though, of course, it is not.

Toras Purim 5779 part 3, Shomrei HaSaf

Image result for bigthan and teresh

We mentioned in the previous post that Mordechai, from Binyomin, also represents the tikkun of Yosef. This is alluded to in the Megillah in that ביקרו is the gimatriya of יוסף בנימין.

Mordechai's tikkun as the third shomer ha'saf also fixed Binyomin's grave sin of Pilegesh b'Givah, for the dead woman was found with her hands on the saf (Shoftim 19:27).

The ultimate tikkun is when the three shomrei ha'saf in unison bring down the shefa from the nekudah of Hashem to the world. In Tanach the words are spelled שמר הסף. Assuming that a pei sofis
is 800, if you take three times שמר הסף you get:

(Yechezkel  35:7)

and

(Mishlei 3:25)

Now, of course, Purim leads into Pesach, where the doorposts were painted with הדם אשר בסף. But what does our saf, which is a doorway, have to do with that saf, which seems to be a vessel? Ah, but the Maharal in his Derashah l'Shabbos HaGadol writes:

Wow! It could also be that the tzuras ha'pesach consists of Hashem at the top and the three shomrei ha'saf as the sides and bottom.

But is Yosef connected to the connotation of vessel? Again, another sefer with which I am not familiar, but which is in the DBS database so it must be bar samcha, the Toldos Aharon writes:

Yes, indeed! (With the added benefit of an expanded explanation of the significance of the yud-vav.) The shomrei ha'saf are also the guardians of the kli machazik brocho which, as we know, is shalom (as stated in the last Mishnah in Shas), which is why Mordechai was a dover shalom (as stated in the last pasuk in the Megillah).

Mordechai had elements of Moshiach ben Yosef (Ish Yemini) and Moshaich ben Dovid (Ish Yehudi).
Perhaps if he had been ratzui to all his brethren, the ultimate redemption would have been achieved then and there. But that was not to be. But he brought to us a small measure of what the Toldos Aharon calls תענוג של השלמת שם הקדוש - The yud-vav.

(Megillah 11a)

Our Simchas Purim should be in the spirit of, כביכול, bringing about the תענוג שיש להבורא מישראל שהם מקבלים שפע של הבורא ב"ה - the samech-pei.

When we calculate the gimatria of בגתן תרש under the assumption that the nun sofis is 500, we get:

(Tehillim 119:54)

However we understand this strange Gemara (perhaps for a different time), it says (Sotah 35a):

Simchah must be used carefully, otherwise it is the sam ha'maves that Bigsan and Seresh wanted to deliver to Achashverosh!

We should be zocheh to the simchah of:
