Artscroll

This is the Artscroll project with which I am currently involved:

http://www.artscroll.com/Books/dd1h.html

I do the Mishna and "Gem from the Gemara" sections.

If you scroll through the sample pages at the site, you'll eventually hit my name towards the end of the Introduction.

  1. Looks great I Thought you would do the Mussar though but I just have some questions on a different topic first this week in Medrash Tanchumah there is a comment which I would seem to think is wrong but probably my misunderstanding it says that people take more mercy on men than women also the Mishnah Berurah or is it the Mechaber says you don't eat grapes on Rosh Hashanah why not Thanks

I think there should be a וכו' - i.e., some have more mercy on men than women, some vice versa, etc.

  4. The minhag not to eat grapes is based on the assumption that they were the fruit of the Eitz HaDa'as.

    But:

  7. I have never used the Medrash HaMevuar, but it has a good reputation.

I beg to differ with those Rabbonim. The only texts of Torah she'b'al peh for which we canno suggest alternatives is the Mishnah and the Bavli - and that is only because we assume that all legitimate possible bases have been covered by commentaries - who themselves were making suggestions as late as the Bach, then the Gra, and perhaps (I don't recall offhand) even the Rashash. When you learn Yerushalmi, you find literally countless places to raise such suggestions, and I don't think the Midrashim are considered to have been as exhaustively emended.
