I read it more as saying that enough Anglo-Yeshivish and likeminded people realized that the gap between Lakewood and Bnei Braq is too large for them to feel like the existing parties represent them.
We're talking people who believe in Torah uParnasah. To continue my above stereotyping -- Lakewood isn't Shaalvim either.
