Alternative Jewish Pi Day

See the previous post on Jewish Pi Day. I am told that in countries where the digits for the date precede the digit for the month, Pi Day is celebrated on the 22nd day of the 7th month, July. The 22nd day of our 7th month, Tishrei, is Shemini Atzeres. Much, much that can be expounded on that basis!!!

Jewish Pi Day

Today mathematicians in countries where the digit for the month precedes the digits for the date celebrated Pi Day. According to our reckoning. our parallel day, the 14th day of the third month, would be 14 Sivan. This is a significant day, as according to the "psak" that the Torah was given on 7 Sivan, 14 Sivan is the day that Moshe Rabbeinu ascended from the cloud to Heaven (according to the pshat in Rashi that the seven days at the end of Parashas Mishpatim took place after Mattan Torah).

Pi as a fraction is most readily approximated as 22/7. (See the next post, on Alternative Jewish Pi Day.) The 22 represents the letters of the aleph-beis, the letters of the Torah and Hashro'as Ha'Shechinah. The 7 represents the days of the week and Olam HaZeh. It should follow that 22 represents the sefiros of iggulim and 7 the sefiros of yosher. The connection of Shomayim and Aretz, the connection of iggulim and yosher  - these are represented by Pi (the gimatriya of which, 90, is significant because the tzaddik yesod olam is the connector) is represented by the day in which a human being went for the first (and only) time from Aretz to Shomayim with the purpose of uniting the two (as opposed to Chanoch and Eliyahu who went in order to depart this world).

The thought process could continue taking 314 as a number - and noting its correspondence in gimatriya to the name שד-י. Another time, perhaps. In the meantime, tein l'chacham v'yechkam od.

Toras Purim 5775 Part 3: A Couple of Random Remazim Noticed During Mikrah Megillah

1

Mishloach Manos means to send one maneh and other maneh. HaMelech and Haman - the adversaries of the Megillah - are each 95 in gematria. So is maneh. Two manos are the two 95. Ish l'rayaihu. Mordechai is the Ish Yehudi and Rayaihu - Haman ha'Ra ha'zeh.

Lech kenos es kol ha'Yehudim. See what we wrote at http://rygb.blogspot.com/2005/12/seeing-beyond-concealment-eruvin-65a.html about kiso, ka'aso, koso. Kenos is also a breaking of the concealment. What breaks it? Well kenos is 136 in gematria - tzom, kol, mammom, as in teshuva tefilla u'tzedaka. The nun-vav that actually break apart the kisui are 56 - 4 times yad (14). If we stretch out our hands to Heaven, middah k'neged middah, kivyachol Hashem extends His hands towards us.

For the record: My shittah on Ta'aniyos D'Rabbanan

On the off-chance that someone cares :-) ...

According to my best understandings of the issues,

if you go to myzmanim.com you will find many zmanim.

A Rabbinic fast, I believe, should be commenced at the zman of 72 minutes as 16.1 degrees (not 72 fixed minutes) and may be concluded at the zman identified as that of Rabbi [Yechiel Michel] Tukaccinsky (27 minutes as degrees), or for one having difficulties, at the zman identified as that of Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadai, the Ba'al HaTanya (24 minutes as degrees - which, according to Rabbi Dr. Yehuda (Leo) Levi is 5.95 degrees).

Toras Purim 5775 Part 2: Kayin, Agag, Haman

The Torah Sheleimah brings down a medrash on Kidmas Eden - where Kayin was banished - that Hayah Kayin Rosh La'Mis'adnim b'Olam Hazeh - the head of those who luxuriate in this world. But what kind of luxury?

The Izhbitzer on Vayeilech Elav Agag Ma'adonos (Mei Ha'Shilo'ach vol. 2) says that Ma'adanos indicates that Agag on the surface seemed naki b'middos (of a pure character) and possessed of yishuv ha'da'as - tranquillity and equanimity. It is in this respect that Amalek is like a pig (the Gemara at the beginning of Bava Kamma says this with reference to Esav) - as he extends his hooves and says he is tahor.

Rav Hutner (Pachad Yitzchok, Purim 29) extends the ma'adonos idea to Haman's ostensible kavod malchus shomayim (honoring Hashem) in offering the 10,000 talents of silver in lieu of the 600,000 half-shelkels.

I once asked HG"R Simcha Zissel Broide zt"l about the Slabodka perspective on Esav - and confirmed that it is that if he were to walk into a Beis Medrash he would walk in (figuratively) in a frock and homburg and we would perceive him as someone to put on the Mizrach.

The yetzer ho'ra of ta'avah - Achashverosh - is apparent. The yetzer ho'ra of kinah - Kayin, Agag, Haman - is not.

There is no kelipah of Yishmael identified by the Mekkubalim that has seeped into Am Yisroel. There is kelipah of Amalek.
