    Did I understand you correctly that the army Rabbanim allow driving home on shabbos for those on leave.

    How do they justify that? There's a source?

    My heart goes out to any soldier whose time off falls in shabbos (leave is sometimes just a few hours), but driving on shabbos to get home seems a bit much IMHO.

      I don't know, perhaps morale is paramount and tantamount to piku'ach nefesh, maybe they have non-Jewish drivers, can't tell from the article.
