A Talk About Mussar With
Rabbi Hillel Goldberg
Especially About
Rabbi Avrohom Eliyahu Kaplan zt"l
Rabbi Dr. Hillel Goldberg of Denver is world-renowned for his work on Mussar. Among many books and articles, he has masterfully translated the B'Ikvos HaYirah essay.
In this wide-ranging talk, Rabbi Goldberg provides many fascinating points of information and insight on Reb Avrohom Elya specifically, but on many broader topics such as the Slabodka-Berlin interface, Mussar in general and the difference between inspiration and engagement.
How can one get a copy of Rabbi Goldberg’s translation? Thanks

DeleteWonderful! If only someone would translate the entire sefer. There is so much gold locked away from bnei aliya behind the language barrier…
ReplyDeleteIt would be phenomenal. The amount of work it would require makes it unlikely. It would require a massive joint effort.
DeleteHave you ever considered saying a shiur on the sefer going through the entire thing?
ReplyDeleteYes. But as RAEK himself begins the famous piece (Rabbi Godldberg's translation) :
Delete"The masses will not read my words. But I do not need the masses and the masses do not need me. Do they have time for the things that I am about to expound? At best, the masses will squeeze out a few moments for me before sleep, for a quick reading and a perfunctory approval, to be followed by a shrug of the shoulders and a superficial, somewhat exasperated response: 'What is this one trying to teach us? Why do they publish such material anyway? It just rehashes well-worn ideas.'"
If I were to have a core, committed group of even five people I would do it.

DeleteYou can count me in, but I’m positive that if you put it out on your channel or as a podcast, you’d have a quite a number of people who would be interested. How many people listened to your conversation with R Goldberg? I’d imagine more than five…
ReplyDeleteNot to mention all those who will find the recordings in the future.
DeleteLet's see if anyone else, even one person, expressed interest. 🙂
DeleteWell they have to hear of the idea. No offense, but how many people are reading these comments? :)
DeletePerhaps a post asking if anyone would be interested would be a better barometer?
That was me.
DeleteI'd be very interestef
DeleteI'd be very interested
