ReplyDeleteRav Kivelevich asked what possible halachic questions could arise requiring the Sanhedrin's vote prior to going to war. Any milchemet reshus by its very definition raises issues whether risking the lives of our soldiers is halachicly justified, not to mention whether santioning killing of the enemy is allowed. These are certainly halachic issues just like any other and require a psak.
About R. Deri, in the days folllowing his resigning in order to take advantage of the legal loophole so no status of moral turpitude could be set against him, it was repeated countless times in the media that this was a smart move by Deri so she could come back to the Knessest as soon as the next election cycle began. This was open and no secret at all. There is no room to be surprised that he followed through with that plan.
